    Library

    The University of Glasgow library has one of the biggest collections in Europe and offers access to more than 2.5 million books and 30,000 e-journals. It has study spaces for 2,564 students and is open for 361 days a year. Students have access to more than 800 student PCs at the library, the largest cluster of student PCs on campus, and Wi-Fi access throughout the building.

      With over 1,200 postgraduate students, our graduate school is a thriving intellectual community, providing training and teaching for the scientists, vets, clinicians and allied health professionals of tomorrow.       Institutes and Schools

      Institute of Biodiversity, Animal Health and Comparative Medicine 
      A multidisciplinary research institute that integrates expertise in animal biology and ecology with that in comparative and veterinary medicine. Unique in the UK, the range of our studies spans multiple biological levels: from research into molecules and cells, to research into individuals, human populations and ecosystems. 

      Institute of Cancer Sciences
      An Institute that takes an integrated approach that ranges from chemistry and basic biological science to veterinary pathology and cancer medicine. By breaking down barriers to interdisciplinary interactions, we provide an outstanding, synergistic research environment in which to train the next generation of scientific and clinical cancer researcher leaders.

      Institute of Cardiovascular and Medical Sciences
      The Institute includes both academic clinicians and research scientists who are responsible for research, teaching and the delivery of clinical services within Glasgow. Areas of expertise, each containing groups of leading, internationally respected researchers includes: vascular, pathophysiology & therapy; heart; diabetes, renal, endocrinology & metabolic disease; genetics, genomics and systems medicine; and clinical trials and implementation.

      Institute of Infection, Immunity and Inflammation
      The Institute brings together world-leading basic, applied, clinical and translational researchers to study infection, with a focus on the viral, parasitic and bacterial pathogens of both humans and animals; and immunology and inflammation, with a focus on chronic inflammatory diseases.

      Institute of Molecular, Cell and Systems Biology
      The Institute has expertise covering a wide range of contemporary integrative biology, from molecules to organisms. Areas of expertise include cell engineering; plant science; molecular and cell biology; systems and synthetic biology; genetics, transgenics and functional genomics and protein characterisation.

      Institute of Neuroscience and Psychology
      The Institute works to understand behaviour at multiple levels of function, from systems to cells. They integrate cutting edge research from the molecular level to human behaviour, with a strong backbone of cell signaling, stem cells, brain imaging and formal modeling, particularly in the dynamics of information processing in cortical networks.

      School of Life Sciences
      The School offers an unrivalled range of course specialisations in biological sciences to suit all interests, but broadly offer courses in:
      The biology of organisms — plants, or animals, or micro-organisms
      The molecular basis of life
      Human biology — anatomy, physiology, sports science
      Biomedical science — the biological basis of disease and its treatment: immunology, infection biology, pharmacology

      School of Medicine
      The School is renowned for pioneering teaching methods and superb facilities for study in Medicine, Dentistry and Nursing.  They have one of the largest and most prestigious Medical Schools in Europe and are leading the UK with one the most important innovations in the teaching of medicine - a unique curriculum that utilises problem-based learning techniques.
      The Dental School is the second largest in the UK and provides comprehensive up-to-date facilities for patient care, student clinical practice and training, and for education and research in dental and oral diseases and disorders.

      The Nursing & Health Care School was established with the aim of producing Graduate Nurses who were grounded in health related scientific theory and now has a national and international reputation for nursing education and research with patient/client as the focus of health care.

      School of Veterinary Medicine
      The School is pre-eminent in teaching, research and clinical provision, and attracts students, researchers and clinicians from around the world.  Their internationally accredited school provides an expert referral centre via the Small Animal Hospital, the Weipers Centre for Equine Welfare and the Scottish Centre for Production Animal Health & Welfare for animal owners and referring practitioners throughout the UK.

      How do we support our students?

      Employability. Providing opportunities for students to enhance their employability is a key focus within the College of Social Sciences. Employability is about much more than simply getting a job after you finish your studies. It is about your achievements, understanding and personal attributes - the things that make you successful both during, and after, your time at University.

All of our international students at the College of Social Sciences have access to a broad range of services through our dedicated International Support Officer, including study tips, information on social events, and information sessions that will be organised throughout the year.
