This course is designed to prepare you for a career in real estate. Focusing on the challenges of new developments, it will enhance your understanding of real estate and its role in the wider economy. The course provides graduate-level entry into the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

How we teach
Nothing is more important to us than your career. We work closely with industry to make sure our courses are up-to-the-minute and relevant so you’ll learn the skills you need to make it to the top in your chosen profession.
You’ll go on site visits and and take part in exercises that simulate real global challenges. Past field trips have included trips to London, Seoul, Cairo and Istanbul. We also organise work placements with planning agencies.
There are lectures, seminars, computer workshops and tutorials. You’re assessed on your coursework and a dissertation.
Core modules: Real Estate Economics; Spatial Planning Systems; Applied Real Estate Valuation; Research Methods.
Core module: Integrated Project specialising in Real Estate Development and Planning Law.
Optional modules include
International Real Estate Market Analysis; Sustainable Development in Practice; Sustainable Development: a critical perspective; Issues in Housing; Investment Valuation; Law of Business Leases; Local and Regional Economic Policy.
The main reason I enjoyed the MA was due to the diversity of the course- academically AND practically; giving me the opportunity to expand my knowledge in a wide range of planning and development themes. The course included a wealth of modules including property economics, planning law, issues in housing, valuation and ethics in planning and development- all knowledge and skills which can be applied in future employment. Most importantly, the course allowed the opportunity for me to follow the strands of planning and development I was most interested in- and for this reason, the most rewarding part of my MA was my dissertation. This gave me the opportunity to be creative and have the freedom to challenge gaps in research that needed to be explored. It was reassuring that the department staff were always helpful and supportive and encouraged new avenues of research enquiry that arose through the duration of the course and reaffirmed my passion for research into housing and regeneration.
A good honours degree or equivalent qualification at undergraduate level and/or relevant practical experience. English language requirements: overall IELTS grade of 7.0 with a minimum of 6.0 in each component, or equivalent.
