About This Professional Doctorate

Course Description

The course will a focus upon project quality and control methods in the project management processes including leadership and team skills. It will provide scope to extend knowledge of technologies and resolution of new build problems. It will provide the opportunity for students to complete a range of optional modules which will facilitate the development of their knowledge and problem solving skills, which are suited to the working environment, the programme will develop research methods and applications.

MSc Construction Project Management consists of nine modules of which some are compulsory. The modules are: Project Management; Risk Management; Health and Safety Management; Quality Management; Advanced Construction Technology; Leadership and Team Development; Research Methods, and Dissertation. Optional modules are: Project Appraisal and Cost Analysis; International Procurement; Resource and Expenditure Planning and Control. These modules apply to the full-time course. If studying part-time, you can take up to 4 modules per year for the Masters Programme. On completion you will be able to project manage effectively across any built environment sector.

Most modules are assessed by coursework alone, but there are some examinations. Most coursework is individual but there is some group work. There are also assessed presentations on the course.

Facilities available to students: Computer: Microcomputer laboratories, networked software, Internet access. Library: University central library and resources service, specialist information centre, undergraduate resource centre.

A course module that will help you plan your career is available as a free choice module (called an elective), which you can study as part of your degree programme

Entry Requirements

Specific entry requirements for this course are an Upper Second Class Honours degree or higher in Construction Project Management, Construction Management, Construction, Building Management, Building or related award title.
