Established over 175 years ago, York St John University is a small, friendly university which is located in the heart of the historic city of York. The campus comprises of a blend of old and new buildings and the feeling of community is one of the things our students love the most.
The 11-acre site is in a beautiful setting facing the world-famous York Minster, where our graduates enjoy the annual graduation ceremonies. Recently named “the best place to live in Britain” by The Sunday Times, York is a city buzzing with culture and nightlife, with festivals throughout the year, a great arts scene, and plenty of museums and galleries. With a huge variety of pubs, clubs, bars and independent restaurants you are sure to have a great time living and studying in York.
A major investment of £46 million over the last ten years has seen the development of exciting and cutting-edge buildings and facilities across the university. Recent developments include a brand new Students’ Union building and a huge investment in the 57 acre Nestle Rowntree Park Sports Campus. Planning is now underway for a new Creative Centre, which will include a flexible teaching space and a 200-seat auditorium. We understand the specific challenges of Postgraduate study and our dedicated Graduate Centre provides specialised study space for you to focus on your studies in addition to our Learning Centre, which is open 24 hours a day.

We offer accommodation in a variety of styles on a number of sites across the city, all within 20 minutes walk. You can apply for places in halls during any year of your studies. We can also help you find alternative accommodation if required, by providing information on a wide variety of private sector houses and flats in York.
